Dr. Kimberly Poole-Sykes is an accomplished academic leader, educator, and advocate for mental health and counseling in higher education, currently serving in a senior leadership role within the Department of Education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). With extensive experience spanning counselor education, clinical mental health, teacher education, psychology, and educational leadership, she is recognized for her strategic oversight of program development, accreditation, and faculty advancement particularly in strengthening clinical training, supervision, and student support systems. Dr. Poole-Sykes has led major initiatives aligned with national and state standards, including CACREP, AAQEP, and Maryland COMAR regulations, with a strong focus on preparing culturally responsive, ethically grounded counseling professionals. She has also secured and managed significant grant funding to expand access to mental health services, substance use prevention, and community-based counseling initiatives. A champion for access, wellness, and equity, she has cultivated partnerships with school districts, state agencies, and community organizations to expand pathways into the counseling profession and improve behavioral health outcomes in underserved communities. In addition to her academic leadership, she is building a growing platform focused on workplace wellness, leadership, and financial empowerment, reflecting her commitment to holistic well-being and impact both within and beyond the university.
